Materials

Here's a list of items you might want to be collecting.  Most are very cheap, or 
free if you can get parts from existing items.  In addition there may be some 
components available for use in Bry015 when we start, but in general you're 
recommended to find your own.

The materials below are separated into tasks.  It's still possible that these 
tasks will change slightly.

Don't worry if you can't get everything now, and I'll go over everything again 
when we start.

t1 Cable:
- A couple of metres of two core screened audio cable.
- Stereo Minijack plug.
- Two quarter inch mono jack plugs.

t2 The Laying On of Hands:
- A battery-powered AM radio or other toy;
- Batteries for the radio/toy;
- A small screwdriver, flat and/or Phillips, as required to disassemble the radio/toy;
- Plastic electrical tape, maybe.
- Optionally: cigar box, double-stick foam tape

t3 Amplifying your Toy:
- A socket of some description. Most common is mini-jack. It can be stereo, but 
as the output of your toy is likely to be mono, mono would be better.
- A cable to connect to whatever you want to connect your socket to. If you've 
planned this, you might be able to use the cable you produced for task one.
- A separate speaker or piezo for testing.

t4 Synthesis on a chip:
- A plastic prototyping board ("breadboard"), e.g. Rapid online part number 34-0650
- 1 CMOS Hex Schmitt Trigger Integrated Circuit (74C14, CD4584 or CD40106), e.g. Rapid online part number 83-0482.
- Assorted resistors, capacitors, pots, and photoresistors.
- Some small signal diodes, such as 1N914, Rapid part number 47-3116.
- Some solid hookup wire.
- A plug to match your amp.
- A 9-volt battery and connector.
- A battery powered mini-amplifier (or speaker, or make your own).

t5 Sudomini:
- NE555 Timer - Rapid Online: 82-0336
- 0.1 uF - capacitor - 08-0235
- 22 uF - capacitor - 11-0230
- 10k - resistor - 62-0897 (100)
- speaker (8 ohm) - 35-0150 (mylar)

t6 Make a mic:
- mini amplifier;
- solder pad microphone insert or similar, Rapid part number 35-0190 (approx 50p);
- 9v battery;
- clip leads or wires;
- battery clip;
- 2.2k resistor;
- 0.1uF (100nF) capacitor;

t7 Capacitative Touch Sensor:
- 555 timer chip
- LED or circuit
- 100K resistor
- 10uF capacitor
- 0.01uF capacitor
- battery/power supply

t7 Box Your Toy:
- A project box
